After five years in development , Magical Thinking, Minutian’s third full-length studio album introduces the group’s updated and matured sound. The pieces have found their places and the playing is tighter and groovier than ever.
Released in 2015, Minutian’s previous studio album Inwards was well received in the media. The band toured around Finland before turning their heads towards new material. Saplings for new songs were emerging slowly, but as life threw lemons and lemonade alike at the band members, as saplings they remained for a long time. As time went by the potential and quantity of these song sketches gradually became clearer and the band started to breathe more life into them. The sketches started to take form as heavier songs with occasional references to the band’s older material combined with fresh aesthetics from more modern rock.
The songs on Magical Thinking are varied in emotion as well as in length. Au contraire to your typical modern progressive rock albums, Magical Thinking is a tight 45-minute package consisting of eight songs. The overall sound is modern, heavy and original – with exquisite vocal harmonies from the bands lead vocalist Mikko Heino and guitarist Pekka Loponen.
Lyrically, the album explores anxiety in all its manifestations. A topic that is every day more and more current.
